Seasonal Chores

About Seasonal Chores

There is a week in October when Bloomington's oaks let go all at once and every yard in town needs a hand. Seasonal Chores is named for exactly that rhythm: the mowing that carries a lawn through summer, the cleanup when the leaves come down, the snow removal that follows the first hard storm — usually sooner than anyone wants. The work keeps time with the calendar, and each stretch of the year leaves its own kind of finished: raked grass going gray-green under frost, a driveway scraped clear while the porch lights are still on. From the Moir Park side of town out to Richfield and Burnsville, the chores get done, and the year rolls on.
