Southeast of Bagley the country climbs into birch and aspen hills, up toward where the Mississippi begins as a creek you could step across. Lost River Outdoors works that landscape all year — mowing, trimming and keeping yards in shape while the ground is green, then plowing driveways, lanes and walkways once it isn't. Up here the two halves of the year don't so much overlap as trade places overnight, and there is usually a week in October spent doing both. The pleasure of the warm half is a straight mown line running out toward the treeline. The pleasure of the cold half is the sound of the blade and a driveway you can back out of at six in the morning.
