Bare ground in northern Minnesota does not stay put — one spring rain will carry a new slope straight into the nearest ditch or on down toward the Clearwater River. Erosion Werx LLC works the lawn side of that problem around Bagley, Bemidji and the country in between, hydroseeding and establishing turf on ground that needs holding. There is a fine week, usually about ten days after seeding, when a raw slope goes from brown to a faint green haze and then to something that looks as though it was always there. Roots knit the soil, the runoff comes clear, and the ground becomes a lawn. Watching that take hold is the best part of the job.
