Backus is a pine-and-lake town in Cass County, where summer means boat trailers on the highway and winter brings a hush so deep you can almost hear snow landing on the needles. Scoops handles both halves of that calendar, keeping lawns cut while the sun rides high and shoveling out entries and drives through the lean months. The name says it plainly: a heap of white lifted off the pavement, one honest scoop after another, until the path runs open from mailbox to porch steps. In summer the same yard gets its grass cut close and even, a neat frame around a cabin or a home on a quiet street. Whatever the month, the job ends with a property that looks looked-after beneath the red pines.
