St. Stephen Tree & Steam

About St. Stephen Tree & Steam

East of the Avon Hills the land settles down toward the Mississippi, and the villages out that way — St. Stephen among them — take their winter straight, with little between them and the wind. St. Stephen Tree & Steam works snow removal across Avon township and the country around it, opening driveways, yards and walkways after the sky finally quits. December dark comes on by half past four, which means much of this happens under headlights and a yard light. There is something steadying about that: engine noise, flakes lit up white, and a widening stripe of bare pavement. Somebody comes home to a place they can pull into.
