Thompson Excavating

About Thompson Excavating

In October the tamaracks in the bogs around Aitkin flare a smoky gold before dropping their needles, Minnesota's one native conifer that lets go of its green. It's the signal that the mowing season is closing out for Thompson Excavating, an excavating company that spends the warm months on lawn care — mowing, trimming and keeping Aitkin yards neat against the wild edge of marsh and pine. Once the tamaracks stand bare and the first hard snow follows, the work becomes snow removal, carving driveways out from under the drifts. It's the excavator's kind of pride: move what needs moving and leave the surface level and tidy behind. Gold in the fall, white in the winter, green again by May — and the ground kept in order through all of it.
