Winter arrives in Yankee Springs Township in a hurry — one gray afternoon the lakes are open, the next the two-tracks are filled and the hills are all one color. Schierbeek Dirt Works plows through it, opening driveways and lots, clearing walks, salting the sloped approaches that give trouble on sandy ground. When the thaw takes hold the same ground goes green, and the work turns to mowing, trimming, edging and hauling out the season's cleanup. Both jobs come down to making a place usable again.
