When the wind swings around to the west off Lake Michigan in January, Wyoming knows what is coming an hour before it arrives — the sky goes flat white, and then the band sets up and does not quit until it feels like quitting. R&E lawn care and snow removal works inside that weather, plowing drives and lots, cutting walks down to pavement and putting salt where the melt will refreeze by dark. It is loud, cold, unglamorous work, and it ends with a whole street able to leave for work in the morning. Warm months turn the same trucks toward mowing and trimming, the routes running in daylight now, clippings swept off the concrete before the crew rolls.
