By late October the ball diamonds at Pinery Park have gone quiet, and on a Saturday morning the loudest thing in the neighborhood is a blower pushing leaves toward the curb. Ramos Landscaping and Handyman runs that shoulder season hard — the last cuts of the year, the leaf work done in passes as the oaks let go, everything cleared before the ground locks up. Then Wyoming flips over, and the same properties get plowed, shoveled and salted through the long middle of a Michigan winter. By May it has all come around again to mowing and trimming, the grass jumping after a wet week. Watching one yard go through that entire circle, kept tidy at every stage, is the most satisfying part of the job.
