March in White Lake Township is a long gray argument between winter and everything else — ice going off Oxbow Lake in patches, the turf matted flat and colorless. Then April settles it, and GR8 Lawn starts the year with cleanups: raking out the winter debris, clearing what blew in, taking the first cut that wakes a lawn back up. From there the season runs on mowing, trimming and edging, week after week, until the grass is thick enough to hide where the plow scraped the lawn last February. Watching a yard come back from gray to green in three weeks never really gets old. Keeping it that way through August is the actual work, and it is the part worth doing well.
