Snow arrives in Westland the way it always has, an Alberta clipper crossing the lake plain overnight, quick and dry and enough to bury a driveway by three in the morning. Abraham Landscape Group is out in it, running routes along Ann Arbor Trail while the rest of the street is dark. Plowing, shoveling walks, opening the apron at the curb so a car can back out without a fight, that is the whole job, and it has to be finished before the alarm clocks ring. There's a particular pride in a driveway that looks like nothing happened to it at all. Winter here is long, and the work is simply showing up inside it.
