West Bloomfield grows its houses under a high oak canopy, and that canopy sets the calendar: acorns drumming the roofs in September, leaf litter deep by November, dappled shade over every lawn in between. Elevated Oaks takes both sides of that year, lawn care through the green months and snow removal once the branches go bare. Mowing under old trees is its own skill — cutting where the light is thin, trimming clean around trunks and surface roots, clearing leaves before they mat the turf down. Then winter arrives and the same drives get opened blade-width by blade-width, salt down at the slope by the garage. Along the rail-trail on a bright cold morning you can tell which yards have been looked after; that is the whole point of the work.
