In March the sandhill cranes come back to the marshes around Munith, the gravel roads through Waterloo Township go soft for a few weeks, and then everything greens at once. Go-to Dakota LLC picks the season up right there — cleanups first, then the weekly mowing, the trimming around mailboxes and machine sheds, the edging that gives a gravel drive an actual border. Township lots run big, and out here the line between yard and field is wherever somebody decides to stop mowing. Holding that line all summer, week after week, is the job. By the last cut in October the whole place still looks the way it did in June.
