Mound Road does not sleep, and neither does the weather that glazes it — freezing rain is Warren's meaner trick, less snow than sheet, invisible until a foot goes out from under somebody. Waupaca Snow Plowing and Removal LLC works those nights as hard as the blizzards: plowing drives and lots, clearing walkways, and salting ahead of the freeze rather than chasing it afterward. Snow removal is the only line of work here, and the aim is narrow — surfaces people can cross without thinking about them. Headlights, an empty lot, a spreader running steady: that is the entire picture at three in the morning. Warren gets through February because someone was out in it.
