Before it was a city of blocks and mile roads, Warren was farm country around a crossroads called Beebe's Corners, and something of that old flat openness is still there in the way an August dusk settles across the yards. Warren Lawns keeps the ground the modern way — mowing, trimming, edging, and the cleanups that open the spring and close the fall. The pleasure is the moment the mower shuts off and the lawn is suddenly one even surface, dark green and going darker as the light drains. Grass has been the crop on this land in one form or another for a long while. Somebody still has to cut it.
