Old Mission Peninsula in January is rows and rows of bare cherry trees holding snow on every branch, with Center Road running the ridge between two arms of frozen water. Cherry Capitol Snowplowing works winter and only winter — plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks, treating the ice that forms when a bright afternoon melts what the night puts back. Drives on the peninsula tend to be long, exposed, and drifted shut by the time the wind is done with them. Opening one is a small, complete piece of work, finished and visible. The orchards will bloom again in May; until then there is snow to move.
