By mid-October the maples along Pontiac Drive give up all at once, and Sylvan Lake spends a month ankle-deep in gold. University Lawn & Landscaping shows up for the unglamorous half of autumn: raking and hauling, pulling leaves out of the corners and off the small lawns before the first hard rain mats them flat. Everything before that is mowing, trimming and edging, week after week, so the turf goes into the cold tight and even. There is a certain pleasure in a yard stripped clean in November — nothing left but grass, curb and shadow. Spring finds it ready, and the whole rhythm starts over.
