Sumpter is the rural far corner of Wayne County — sandy soil, hayfields, houses set back down long two-tracks, the Huron River drawing its line just to the north. Lil Johnson's lawn care works those yards straight through the growing season with mowing, trimming, edging and seasonal cleanup. On an August evening the heat finally lets go around seven and the grass gives off that sweet cooling smell.
