The Snowmen

About The Snowmen

By late January the banks along the street stand shoulder-high and the whole county is the same color as the sky. The Snowmen do snow removal in St. Louis, Michigan — plowing drives and lots, shoveling walks and steps, and putting salt down where ice sets up overnight. Wind out of the northwest will fill a cleared drive back in by supper, so this job gets measured in return trips as much as in inches. The reward is watching somebody back out of a garage without a second thought on the roughest morning of the winter. Winters here run long, which suits a crew named for them.
