On the canal streets of St. Clair Shores, autumn arrives as a change in the water — the boat wells empty out, the seawalls go quiet, and the lawns behind them take on that deep late-season green. Capek's Landscaping works those narrow lots where the grass runs right down toward the dock line, mowing, trimming and edging so every strip between fence and water reads clean. When the lake turns and the first storms push in off Lake St. Clair, the same trucks come back with plows and salt for driveways, walks and aprons. There is real satisfaction in a canal-side drive opened end to end while the neighborhood is still dark. It is ordinary work, done with care, in a town shaped entirely by the water at its edge.
