The ground in Chippewa County spends half the year frozen and comes into late summer packed as tight as a two-track. Northern Core Aeration opens it back up in September, pulling plugs so air and water reach the roots, then overseeding while there is still warmth enough for it to take hold. A lawn that comes back thick in May was worked on the autumn before — that is the arithmetic of a Sault Ste. Marie yard. Mowing, trimming and fall cleanup fill in the rest of the calendar. The work is quiet: a cool morning, plugs scattered across the grass, and nothing to show for it until spring proves it.
