About J.R. Outdoors

In deep January, Slagle's back roads go hushed under fresh powder, and the lone tracks across the township may belong to a snowmobile and a fox. J.R. Outdoors handles snow removal in this wooded Wexford County corner, where homes sit tucked down long gravel drives and the nearest neighbor might be a stand of hemlock. The work happens in the cold blue hours: blade down, the drive opened clear to the garage, a wide spot pushed out for turning, the walk shoveled through to the porch. There is real craft in a clean plow line along a lane that curves beneath the trees, its banks set back far enough to leave room for the next storm. When the sun finally clears the ridges, the lane runs open to the county road.
