By mid-December the color left in Shelby Township is mostly evergreen — spruce and pine holding their green against a sky that goes dark before five. Winter Green II works the hours after that light is gone, plowing driveways and parking lots, shoveling walks and steps, and spreading salt where meltwater runs and refreezes overnight. A storm here can arrive politely all afternoon or hit sideways at midnight, and either way the route runs until it is finished. The idea is unglamorous and complete: you come home, the drive is open, the path to your door is bare. Then it snows again, and the trucks go back out.
