Seville Township lies out where the Pine River loops through Gratiot County farm ground, elevators on the skyline, section roads and a great deal of sky. little dumps mows out here all summer — farmhouse yards that run back to the treeline, village lots in close, everything trimmed neat around the posts, the propane tank and the root flare of the shade tree. Grass on this bottomland shoots up after a July rain and then coasts, so the schedule bends to the weather rather than the calendar. When fall comes the leaves and the last cuttings are hauled off so the lawn goes into winter short and clean. The pleasure is in the after: a yard that looks looked-after from the road.
