Inland from Saugatuck the land lifts into orchard country, fruit rows running toward Fennville, and the year out here comes in two clear halves. Through the warm one, Lakeshore Outdoors is mowing, trimming, edging and cleaning up yards from the dune roads to the farms behind them. Through the cold one the trucks are out plowing drives, shoveling walks and salting steps, often while the lake is still throwing snow at the shore. The turn between the two arrives fast in this corner of Allegan County: one week rakes, the next week blades. Working both means never really leaving a property, and that shows in how it looks.
