By February a county seat starts running out of places to put it all. Wolverine Sales & Service Inc. moves snow in Sandusky — pushing drives and business lots back down to the pavement, cutting the banks at the corners so nobody backs out blind, scraping entryways and salting where the day's melt refreezes overnight. There is a sound to that work at first light: a blade lifting, gravel ticking, and then a lot that looks like the storm skipped it entirely. The Thumb gets its share of gray weeks, and reaching the door dry is most of what anybody is asking for. Sandusky, Marlette, Peck and Snover make up the working area.
