American Grounds

About American Grounds

East of Saline the land lies flat and open toward Ypsilanti, and in a February wind the snow does not fall so much as travel — sideways over Textile Road, piling against every fence line and garage door. American Grounds meets it out there, pushing the drifts back before they set hard and salting the shaded corners the sun never reaches. When the thaw finally arrives and the fields go white to brown to a startling green, the work shifts to mowing and trimming, week after week through the long humid stretch of a Michigan summer. The pride is in the return: same day, same route, the lawn holding its shape from April to October. Snow removal in the cold months and lawn care in the warm ones, across Saline and its neighbors.
