Out in the county the ground opens into long rows, and in spring those rows are the first thing to green — young stock standing in ranks under a wide St. Clair County sky, waiting to become somebody's front yard. Sherman Nursery Farms works outward from that idea: lawns mowed and trimmed week to week, borders kept tight, beds mulched, plantings shaped, turf fed and seeded wherever it needs the help. Between the river towns and the farm country there are a hundred kinds of yard here, and each one wants something a little different. The good days end with a property that looks settled, as though it grew that way on purpose. From St. Clair out to Marysville, East China and the townships beyond, the season runs from the first cut of April to the last leaf of November.
