Four in the morning on the Freeland side of town, the Tittabawassee running black under its ice and a set of plow lights swinging across an empty drive. Marlo Irrigation runs snow removal through the Saginaw winter — plowing driveways and lots, opening the apron at the road, and cutting a walkway wide enough to carry groceries through. A storm here can lay down a slow all-night blanket or arrive sideways on a bay wind, and either way the aim is the same: the car leaves on time and nobody has to guess where the pavement is. Coming back for a second pass after the wind resets a drift is part of the job, not an extra. Daylight shows the work — bare asphalt, banks pushed off the corners, tire tracks headed somewhere.
