Landworks of Northern Michigan

About Landworks of Northern Michigan

The state forest around Roscommon is stitched with two-tracks and trail crossings, and in winter the whole country goes white and stays that way for months. Landworks of Northern Michigan works that landscape from both ends of the year: plowing and shoveling drives, salting where ice glazes over, then mowing, trimming and edging once the pines shake off their last needles into the grass. Properties up here can be long, wooded and awkward to reach, which makes clearing them a matter of knowing the ground. Cleanups bookend the season, hauling out what the wind and the winter left behind. It is northern work, a little rugged, done with an eye on what the place will look like once the drifts are gone.
