Noon on the plains north of the village, and the heat pulls the resin smell straight out of the jack pines. JS Lawn and Landscape is at work through the middle of those days, mowing, edging and running the trimmer along fence posts, mailboxes and the sandy edges where lawn gives way to forest. Up here the growing season is compressed, so the grass arrives late, comes on fast, and demands a real rhythm from June through August. Mulch goes down, borders get redefined, brush gets cleared back off the property line. And at the end of a job, the clean geometry of a mowed yard set against unbroken timber is its own small pleasure.
