Spring reaches Rockwood a little late — the lake holds the cold well into April — and then the whole town turns green in about ten days. Mc Kay's Lawn Services Inc meets it with mowers and trimmers, edging the walks at Fort Street addresses and hauling out whatever winter left behind in the beds. Come December the same trucks carry plows, opening drives and clearing walks before the first shift heads out. Two opposite kinds of morning, both of them early. What stays constant is the finish: nothing ragged, nothing left behind.
