Richland sits a mile south of Gull Lake, and in May the whole village smells of cut grass and lilac at the same hour. Cultivating Dreams tends the lawns around the village green and out along the roads that run down to the water — mowing on a steady cycle, trimming bed edges, and hauling off what spring and autumn leave behind. Lake air keeps the grass growing later here than it has any right to, so the last cut of the year often gets taken with a jacket on. The aim is turf that holds a clean line where it meets the sidewalk and gives the whole lot a settled look. Richland, Augusta, Galesburg and the shore roads around Gull Lake.
