Presque Isle means almost an island, and the name is honest — the land reaches out into Lake Huron with water on three sides and two lighthouses standing at the far end of it. Island Lawn Care mows in that air, where fog can lie in the birches until midmorning and then lift all at once to blue. Lawns this close to the big lake grow slow and fine, so the work is careful: even passes, trimming tight to stone and step, edging along the drive, clippings cleared from the walk. The season runs short up here, from a late green-up to the first hard frost, and every week of it counts. By evening a cut yard on the harbor road holds the last of the light longer than the water does.
