Lake Chemung sets the calendar for the properties around it — open water and mowing from April on, then a hard grey lid and plowing from December. JP Landscaping runs the whole circuit: mowing, trimming and edging through the warm months, cleanups at both ends of the growing season, and plowing and salting once the lake starts fogging the road on cold mornings. Summer here smells of cut grass and boat gas; winter is wind coming straight across the ice with nothing to slow it down. The same driveways get cut clean in July and cut open in February, by the same people, which is how a place gets known rather than merely serviced.
