Snow arrives in Petoskey at odd hours — often near midnight, falling straight down through the streetlights, quiet as anything, while the sledding hill at the Winter Sports Park fills an inch at a time. Two Glass Gents are out in it, plowing drives, opening parking areas, shoveling steps and walks so the morning starts on bare pavement. There is something companionable about two people working a storm together, headlights crossing, the whole town asleep behind them. By the time Emmet County wakes up, the work reads as though the snow simply decided to fall somewhere else. That is the entire point of doing it well.
