Petoskey counts its winters in feet. The toboggan run at the Winter Sports Park is open while the rest of town is digging out, and somebody has to make the digging happen — that is the whole of what B & G Enterprises does. Plowing, clearing walks, and cutting through the wall a passing county truck packs across the end of a drive: the work happens at hours nobody else is awake for. The reward is small and repeats all winter — headlights swinging into an open drive, tires that grip on the way out. When the last bank finally slumps into April, they will have been at it since November.
