Sunrise in Owosso has nothing to climb over — it comes straight across the open ground east of town and lands all at once on wet grass. Sunburst Gardens Inc takes the whole year in that light: yards raked open in April while the Shiawassee runs high and the color of coffee, then mowing, trimming and edging through the long green middle of the calendar, then leaves gathered and gone in the gray part of November. When the ground goes hard, the same attention moves to plowing drives, clearing walks and putting salt where a morning needs to stay walkable. It's ordinary work done on purpose, and the reward is a place that looks intentional in every month it's looked at. A lawn cut this morning, a drive opened before dawn — both are ways of saying somebody is paying attention here.
