Oscoda Township gets the morning before the rest of Michigan does — the sun comes up out of Lake Huron and lays a bright road right to the mouth of the Au Sable. Lee's Lawn Services Inc works both halves of that year on the shoreline: mowing, trimming and cleanups while the river runs green under the bridge, then plowing and shoveling when the wind swings onshore and drifts start building against the garage doors. A drive opened before the first car needs it is its own quiet accomplishment. Lawns here grow thick in the lake air through the summer and take a cut beautifully. Homes and cottages from Oscoda out to Tawas and Greenbush are all on the schedule.
