Homestead Gardens & Transport

About Homestead Gardens & Transport

North of Ortonville the drives get long — two-tracks and farm lanes that run a few hundred feet off the road before they ever reach a house. Homestead Gardens & Transport clears them: plowing lanes and driveways, opening lots and turnarounds, shoveling walks and steps, laying salt where the ice hides. Snow crossing an open hayfield drifts sideways and rebuilds a bank an hour after it has been cut, so some nights the work gets done twice and nobody grumbles about it. There is a good moment at the end, standing out at the road looking back down a lane you can see all the way to the porch light. Then on to the next one, out toward Groveland and Hadley.
