Lake Superior does not do anything by halves, and Ontonagon spends its winter under whatever the lake decides to send. Snow arrives by the foot here, off the water and in past the lighthouse at the river mouth, with the Porcupine Mountains catching still more of it just west. Seidline Contracting plows through those weeks, opening drives and lots, cutting back banks that grow taller than a truck, shoveling walks and laying salt where the wind polished everything to ice. The measure of the work is simple: whether a person can get out in the morning, storm or no storm. On the Superior shore, that is not a small thing.
