About Outdoor Services

At three in the morning Okemos is nothing but streetlight and falling snow, and the old oaks along Okemos Road hold their load like shelves. That is the hour Outdoor Services is out, plowing subdivision drives and clearing lots while the town sleeps toward its alarm clocks. Snow off the low ground near Legg Park comes wet and heavy, the kind that wants a blade and a shovel both. Walks get scraped down to the concrete, salt goes at the steps, and the banks are set back far enough to survive the next storm. By breakfast the only evidence of the whole night is a driveway that looks like nothing happened at all.
