North of town the land still remembers being orchard, and the fencerows out toward Pine Run run thick with volunteer cherry, box elder and ash. Trombly's Tree Service does the sorting — pruning what's worth keeping, trimming back what has crowded a driveway or a garage, taking out what has died standing. April is when it all becomes obvious: the good wood buds and the dead wood doesn't. Storms cross Genesee County through the warm months and leave the yards full of work, so the cleanup is plain enough — brush out, wood cut and stacked, grass combed clean. It's a small pleasure, a yard that looks finished.
