Freight still runs through Mason, and the old depot has stood through a lot of weather coming in flat off the fields. Mason Outdoor Works takes those winters one storm at a time, plowing driveways, clearing walkways, salting the shaded strip where the sun never quite reaches. In October the same trucks carry mowers and blowers instead, cutting late-season grass and moving leaves before the ground locks up. Then the growing season swings back around and the mowing settles into its weekly beat. It is honest outdoor work in a town that has always done plenty of it.
