By September the ferns along the Carp River have gone gold, and the woods' edge starts creeping back toward the yards it borders. Wildwood Gardening works right on that seam — garden and bed care, planting and weeding, plus the lawn care that keeps the mown ground clear and defined: mowing, trimming, edging. In a place this wooded a yard is a negotiation, and the pleasant surprise is how well it comes out once you stop fighting the woods and start shaping the meeting point. Leaf work carries on through October until the first real storm ends the argument for the year. Then the ground rests, and so does everybody else.
