Marion is a small grid of village streets in Osceola County, with hayfields and hardwood running right up to the edge of town. Christie's Potting Shed looks after lawns and the ground around them — mowing on a regular turn, trimming and edging where grass meets brick, gravel and garden bed, and clearing beds out in spring and again in fall. Northern Michigan gives a short season and a generous one; everything arrives at once in late May and grows hard through July. The pleasure is in the finish work, an edge redrawn along a bed line so the green and the mulch each stay where they belong. A yard kept that way still looks composed in November, when the color has gone out of everything else.
