Marine City was a town of shipwrights once, and something of that carries on in how people here look at a straight line. Kruegers Cuts brings that eye to lawns — mowing on a steady rotation, trimming close around posts and porch steps, edging the walk so the concrete shows its true shape again. On late-June evenings, when the heat lets go and the light comes long and low up off the water, a freshly cut yard looks about as good as a yard can look. The work is unglamorous, and it is also the difference between a house you drive past and a house you notice. Between the riverfront streets and the roads running back toward the fields, that is the route.
