US-2 runs right along the north shore of Lake Michigan here, and in January the wind crosses the ice with nothing at all to slow it down. Bouchard's Plowing LLC works the drives and lots through the dark half of the year — blade down, salt spread, banks pushed back far enough to make room for the next storm. When the shore finally thaws, the same trucks trade steel for mowers and the season turns to mowing, trimming and edging. Manistique is a town of long winters and quick summers, and both get the same attention. Cleared in February, cut clean in July.
