Antrim County gathers snow the way few places do — bands rolling in off the big water and unloading over the jack pine plains for days at a stretch. H&M Earthworks meets that with plowing, driveway and lot clearing, shoveled walkways and ice treatment on steps and approaches. Out on the sand-plain roads the drifts rebuild overnight, so routes get run again and again until the sky finally quits. The measure of a good morning is a two-track opened wide enough that nobody has to think about how much fell. Then the light comes up pink over the pines and it is worth the hour it took.
