Out past the edge of town, where Linden's streets give way to the hay ground of Argentine Township, a June evening comes on slow and gold. Deerfield Outdoor Services LLC works those long hours — mowing, trimming and edging while the light holds, then the seasonal cleanups that bookend a Michigan growing year. A lawn cut in that hour keeps its stripes right up until the fireflies come up out of the grass. It is ordinary work done attentively, one yard at a time, on the roads between Linden and Fenton.
